About the Place
Welcome to Nan Xiang Soup Dumplings - Flushing, a celebrated gem nestled in the vibrant heart of New York City's culinary scene. Renowned for its mouthwatering soup dumplings, also known as xiao long bao, this iconic restaurant promises an unforgettable dining experience. With a storied reputation, it attracts dumpling enthusiasts from all over.
As you step inside, you'll immediately notice the warm and inviting atmosphere. The space is clean and welcoming, with an energy that's infectious, especially during the bustling meal hours. Whether it's a late afternoon craving or a bustling dinner crowd, Nan Xiang often has a full house, evidenced by the friendly service that never falters amid the buzz.
The menu is a treasure trove for those who love dumplings. Classic pork soup dumplings steal the spotlight, but the offerings extend far beyond. Indulge in unique variations like truffle & pork, chicken, and even abalone & pork soup dumplings—each wonderfully crafted to deliver an explosion of flavors. As Customer Stephen K highlighted, the choices are extensive, adding an element of excitement for first-time visitors and seasoned patrons alike.
However, it's not just the dumplings that shine here. The restaurant's other dishes, such as the delectable scallion pancakes and flavorful noodles, deserve mention. A standout favorite among customers is the sticky rice shumai, which is praised for its perfect texture—a soft, chewy delight that complements any meal. The pickled fish noodle soup has garnered rave reviews for its silky fish and bouncy noodles, making it a must-try, as noted by Customer J C.
It's worth noting that while the soup dumplings are a highlight, some guests have pointed out that the dough can be slightly thicker than expected and the dumplings a bit larger. But seasoned dumpling enthusiasts are likely to appreciate the rich, authentic flavor that keeps bringing them back. The panoramic flavors present at Nan Xiang can often overshadow the minor criticisms some patrons mention, such as preferences for thinner skins or portion sizes.
Undoubtedly, one of the restaurant's strengths lies in its affordability and exceptional service. As Customer Dustin Irwin shared, one could easily envision themselves visiting weekly, thanks to the combination of great value and outstanding dining experience. With a diverse and generous menu, sharing plates is highly recommended for those dining in groups to fully relish the expansive offerings.

“ This is one of the well-known dumpling chain restaurants in New York City, and we visited the Flushing location. There was no line when we arrived, so we were seated right away. However, the place was almost packed. It was late in the afternoon — not quite lunch or dinner — but we were craving dumplings and decided to give it a try. They served complimentary hot tea, which was perfect on a chilly day. It tasted wonderful, and the staff happily refilled it throughout our meal. We ordered two types of dumplings: one green-tinted variety (likely pork with leek or herbs) and a set of chicken soup dumplings. The pork dumplings were outstanding — flavorful and aromatic — while the chicken ones were milder in taste. The service was attentive; they brought out the dumplings in batches so each set stayed piping hot. The soup dumplings in particular were excellent — steamy, juicy, and comforting. They also had chili oil on the table, which added a perfect kick. Overall, this place is a great spot for dumpling lovers — flavorful food, warm service, and a cozy vibe. Highly recommended if you’re in the Flushing area. ”
“ An iconic dumpling restaurant that is known for their soup dumplings! Not only can you order traditional pork soup dumplings, but also truffle & pork soup dumplings, chicken soup dumplings, abalone & pork soup dumplings, three treasures soup dumplings, and many more! Just note that it may get busy at times and you will need to join a waitlist. In addition to their steamed soup dumplings, they offer appetizers, noodle soups, and stir-fried noodles & rice cakes. Several of their signature dishes that I also recommend are Beef Tripe in Spicy Sauce, Four Happiness Sponge Tofu, and Shanghai Stir-Fried Udon. If you want more beef and bok choy, then go for the Beef Stir-Fried Udon instead of the Shanghai Stir-Fried Udon. Other than that, enjoy! ”
“ My friend’s mom loves this place! Clean, comfortable, and friendly service. The rice ball tasted just like back home, and the pickled fish noodle soup was a big hit,the fish was silky and the noodles bouncy. The soup dumplings were tasty though a bit thick, but the sticky rice shumai was soft and chewy, so good! The celery and tofu dish would be even better if the tofu were cut smaller. ”
“ Solid xiao long bao - however, by far not the best i had even in US. The dough is a bit too thick and the size is a bit too big. The flavor is good though. Can’t recommend the truffle one - truffle and XLB just doesn’t match. Their pan fried baos are alright. Nothing i want come back for. 5 stars for late night opening hours though! ”
“ The dumplings are delicious, the egg rolls are super fresh and crispy. The noodles are incredibly flavorful, and they're incredibly large. My recommendation is to order the sharing plates because they're really quite generous. ”
